Helene Gold, Board President
Helene Gold holds the office of the President of the Board of Directors of SCC. Being retired after having been a vocal/choral music teacher for 33 years, volunteering with SCC has given Helene the ability to stay in touch with choral music and teaching. Although she is now on the “business end” of the Chorus, she has the insight into the needs of both the choristers and the Artistic Directors of the organization. .Along with being a member of SCC’s Board, Helene also sits on the Board of the McMahon-Ryan Child Advocacy Center and the Syracuse Stage. When not involved with community-based organizations, Helene works at Frankie and Faye, a women’s clothing boutique in Armory Square owned by her daughter, Amanda. And, from October to April, Helene joins her husband, Neil, as he follows the SU Men’s Basketball team through their season.
Renee Frontale, Vice President
Renee Frontale is serving her third year on the Board of Directors and serves as Vice President. Renee resides in Clay, NY, with her husband and 2 children – her daughter was a previous member of SCC for 7 years. Currently, along with her husband, owns Packaging Consultants International, a microbiology laboratory. Previously Renee was the Mall Marketing Coordinator for The Pyramid Companies and a member of 4 grand opening teams, including Carousel Center. She was also the Advertising and Marketing Director for Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes throughout NYS and Pennsylvania. Additional Boards that she has presided on include the Syracuse Children’s Theater and Mommy & Me of CNY.
Susan Fox, Treasurer
Susan Fox has served on the Board of Directors since 2006, and is the current Treasurer. She works at Community Bank System, Inc. as the Chief Information Officer and previously held the position of Corporate Controller. Prior to working for Community Bank, she was a Senior Audit Manager for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. Susan lives in Manlius with her husband and three children.
Margie Rivers, Secretary
Margie Rivers is serving her third year on the Board of Directors. She has been working in the Insurance industry for over 23 years and is currently employed in the Commercial Insurance Claims department at Liberty Mutual. While managing her family life comes first, Margie is an avid runner and loves to golf. Margie is passionate about the arts and looks forward to seeing the Syracuse Children’s Chorus grow and flourish.
Jamie Sutphen has been involved with SCC since 1998, when her daughter was first a chorister. She has served as a parent chaperone, fundraiser and volunteer with the Chorus. For the past 10 years Jamie been a member of the Board of Directors, including serving several terms as Board President. Jamie practices Real Property Law full time as a partner of Baldwin & Sutphen, LLP and is also an active community volunteer the arts, education and public sectors. Jamie currently heads up the Grants Committee of SCC.
Dan Chakin in serving his second year on the Board of Directors of SCC. Dan started his business career over 35 years ago when he established the first of several IT companies providing consulting, software design and programming services. His daughter, Maia, is in her seventh year with SCC. Dan resides with his wife, Leigh and two children, Zachary and Maia. It is Dan’s hope that he can contribute to SCC achieving its mission of achieving excellence in music education and performance.
A long-time resident of Syracuse, Sandra Davis has served as a member of the Syracuse Children’s Chorus (SCC) Board of Directors since 2013. For 14 years, she worked as an Executive Assistant with the New York State Assembly and has been a Managing Editor of a scientific journal, as well as a copy editor for several publications prior to her retirement from full-time professional responsibilities. She has served on several non-profit boards, including the American Heart Association. Recently, Sandra was awarded the Giroux Distinguished Service Award by the 17th Ward Democratic Committee of Onondaga County. Sandra, a former music education major, sang for over 30 years with a local semi-professional group in Syracuse. A graduate of Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences, Sandra is the proud grandmother of a 9-year SCC graduate. She has been married to her husband, of 54 years, Clive Davis.
John Warren is Director of Choral Activities at Syracuse University and gives SCC a direct link to the Setnor School of Music. Dr. Warren’s choirs have been invited to perform at professional conferences, international festivals, and have travelled throughout the US, Europe, and Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. Dr. Warren has conducted choirs of all ages and types, including children’s choirs, and is happy to share his expertise and experience with SCC.
Caroline Calimlim is serving her third year on the Board of Directors. She is the mother of 2 children- both have been members of SCC. Her son Robert Michael (28 years old) was an SCC chorister for 4 years and daughter Christine (20 years old) was in the chorus for 9 years. Caroline chaperoned for the SCC tours to Chicago and New Orleans. She is a substitute teacher and communications/publicity person at Immaculate Conception School in Fayetteville. Caroline also serves as an Auxiliary Board of Directors for Francis House. She resides in Jamesville with her husband and children.
Karen (Felice) Spector
Karen grew up in CNY. After graduating from MPH and SU, Karen moved to the West Coast to pursue a career as a retail buyer. Karen returned to the Syracuse area to raise her family and for the quality of life CNY offers. This is her daughter’s 8th year with SCC (starting in Preludio and now in Chorale) and Karen’s 3nd year on the Board. Karen joined the Board because the choral training and performance opportunities offered through SCC have been life changing for her daughter. She hopes you find the experience as rewarding for your chorister.
Paige Mills is the parent of SCC chorister Aubrey Mills, who is in her sixth year with SCC and a member of chorale. Paige is a licensed mental health counselor in 3 states and has worked in community and school settings with both children and adults. Paige is the Program Director for ACEing Autism, a tennis program for kids on the autism spectrum, at Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse. Paige was a chaperone on the Denver Sing-a-Mile-High Tour in Summer 2016 with our chorale members. Paige resides with her husband, Greg and two children, Aubrey and Henry.
